David hopes to score against Inter and welcomes Zhegrova to Juventus: ‘Brilliant’

Jonathan David welcomes his ex-Lille teammate Edon Zhegrova to Juventus and hopes to score ‘any goal’ for the Bianconeri against Inter on Saturday.

David released an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport three days before a crucial Serie A fixture between Juventus and Inter in Turin.

David already scored on his Serie A debut against Parma in August and dreams of doing just the same against Juventus’ biggest rivals this coming weekend.

“Whether it’s an acrobatic finish or a tap-in on the goal line, any goal would make me happy as long as it helps the team win,” he said.

David joined Juventus on a free transfer earlier this summer.

“I signed knowing that I was joining a European giant, but once you’re inside, you realise even more the scale of this club. I still haven’t had a chance to visit the museum,” he said.

“The players, the fans…at Juventus, everything is big and everything must be done at the highest level.”

David is currently on international duty with the Canada national team alongside his compatriot Tajon Buchanan, a former Inter defender, now playing for Villarreal. Did they talk about the Derby d’Italia?

“Not about Inter, but we spoke about the Champions League game Villarreal-Juventus in October,” David revealed.

Villarreal are among the eight opponents Juventus will meet in the league phase of the Champions League this season.

David plays as a lone striker at Juventus, but forms a two-man attack at an international level. Which system does he prefer?

“I feel comfortable in both systems. In recent seasons,” he replied.

“I’ve played as a lone striker at a club level, but with the national team, I’ve always partnered with another forward. For me, it’s not a big difference; I enjoy both.”

Does this mean he could play with Dusan Vlahovic at Juventus?

“It’s possible, but that’s a decision for the coach. It’s more a question for Tudor. I’m ready for any solution, and I enjoy playing in every role,” David said.

“Dusan and I push each other on the pitch because we both want the best for the team.”

Juventus signed David’s ex-Lille teammate Zhegrova before the international break.

“I spent several seasons with him. Edon is an incredible player, with a fantastic left foot and great dribbling skills. A brilliant signing,” said the Canadian striker.

“At Lille, we always had a strong bond on and off the pitch. There’s a real connection between us, and that will also be an advantage at Juventus.

“I won’t predict numbers, but knowing him, I’m sure he will help me and other forwards score plenty of goals.”

Kenan Yildiz and Gleison Bremer will predictably play a significant role at Juventus this term.

“Kenan is young and has huge qualities. If he keeps going like this, he has everything it takes to become a top, top, top player,” said David.

“My first Serie A goal for Juventus came against Parma from a Yildiz assist. It’s really fun, and it’s a privilege to play with him.

“Gleison has fantastic physicality and plays with great intensity. Even for us strikers, he’s tough to face in training, but sometimes I’ve managed to score against him.”
