Chloe Kelly’s Penalty vs Spain Faster Than Every 2024-25 Premier League Goal

Chloe Kelly stepped up and rifled her penalty past Spain’s Catalina Coll, thus bringing football home once again – and the England forward’s effort from 12 yards out was more powerful than any Premier League goal last season, it has been revealed.

England’s Alessio Russo cancelled out Mariona Caldentey’s 25th-minute header in the second half, which gave Sarina Wiegman’s side a slither of hope. Neither side, however, were able to find the winning goal – and penalties, again for England, beckoned.

Hannah Hampton – who saved penalties from both Caldentey and two-time Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati in tremendous fashion – was, despite Kelly’s penalty heroics, the woman of the hour. Kelly’s strike is still raising eyebrows for its ferocity.

Reason ITV ‘Cut’ Chloe Kelly Interview After Winning Euro 2025

Some viewers have accused ITV of cutting the interview after Kelly said she’s ‘proud to be English’ – but the actual reason has emerged.

Kelly’s Penalty Recorded as Fastest Goal of the Tournament

The forward’s strike was quicker than any 2024/25 Premier League goal

“Fire and ice,” Kelly’s former Everton manager, Willie Kirk, previously said of the forward’s innate prowess from the penalty spot. Per The Athletic, he continued: “She takes penalties under pressure, definitely has ice in her veins and plays with a lot of fire.”

And, well, after watching her penalty against Spain – it’s hard to disagree, and the speed of her effort from 12 yards out has raised some eyebrows. Kelly, 27, recorded the fastest shot of the tournament in the process at 110 km/h. As reported by ESPN, the speed of her shot was recorded by Connected Ball Technology housed inside the adidas Konektis Finale match ball.

“Chloe Kelly’s winning penalty – the last kick of Euro 2025 – was also the fastest goal of the whole tournament. Clocked at 110km/h,” Standard Sport’s Simon Collings reported.

England duo Beth Mead and Leah Williamson had both missed their penalties; Alex Greenwood and Niamh Charles had both converted. For Spain, only Patricia Guijarro had converted her penalty of the four and Bonmati was among those who missed for Montse Tome’s side.

Similarly to her penalty against Sweden in the quarterfinals, Kelly skipped towards the ball before slotting home, past a helpless Coll, as she secured gold for England. Her strike, per the statistics, was quicker than any 2024/25 Premier League goal.

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak – who is one of the greatest strikers in world football – strike against Liverpool was named as the most powerful goal in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign. The Swede’s strike clocked up an average speed of 108.94 km/h.

As expected, Kelly – and her England teammates – couldn’t contain their excitement as her strike hit the back of the net and Spanish outlet Diario AS has slammed the ex-Manchester City ace for celebrating in front of a defeated Coll.

“This is unnecessary, my friend: Kelly’s cocky gesture to Cata Coll after scoring the decisive penalty. The England specialist changed her run during her penalty celebration to get past the goalkeeper she had just beaten.”

London-born, the 59-cap England international insisted she felt cool, calm and collected ahead of her all-important spot kick. “I was cool. I missed against Italy, and then I hit the tap-in in. I knew I wasn’t going to miss twice,” the Arsenal ace told ITV in his post-match interview.
