SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Hardette Harris, the owner and chef at “Us Up North” restaurant in Shreveport, will demo some of her most tasty dishes at Saturday’s Big Health Event, and they’re all healthy.

Harris says to start eating healthy, people should start shopping healthy.
“Buy more healthy foods and less unhealthy foods. If you’re trying to cut back on meat, go to the grocery store, do the best you can. Try not to buy it,” she said. “And then when you get home, you don’t have it. I know it’s hard to resist the fatty foods, but if you’re trying to live well and live long, we’ve got to do these things.”
Harris often offers cooking classes to teach people the skills they need to cook healthier foods and says the health journey is a gradual process that’s worth the wait.
“I think that this big health event, with all they have going on, and I think it’s so smart to not only have screenings and things like that, but to have healthy cooking demos to show people different ways they can eat and have chefs that are experienced in that to kind of help them out,”
The Big Health Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center, located at 400 Caddo Street.
Registration is not required for the event, but it is heavily encouraged.
