Canzi & Lenzini: We want to win this competition for the first time

There’s a trophy already up for grabs for the Juventus Women’s First Team this Saturday and, unusually, it’s one they haven’t won before.

The Bianconere face off against Roma in the final of the first-ever edition of the Serie A Women’s Cup, mark a good start to the 2025/26 campaign in the best way possible – with silverware.

Ahead of the game, which kicks off at 17:30 CEST on Saturday, September 27, Bianconere boss Massimiliano Canzi spoke to the press, alongside defender Martina Lenzini.

“Juventus against Roma is a real classic of Italian football. The last time we played them it went very well, but we’ll take nothing for granted tomorrow. We’ll be coming up against a strong team with big ambitions. It’s a new competition and we, as Juventus, want to win it for the first time. These games are often open until the very end and can be decided late on, and we have a squad that allows us to make an impact from the bench.

“Whether we play in a back four or back three, playing as a centre-back in the four or on the right of the three, nothing much changes for me. I think I speak on behalf of my teammates in saying that as well. We move well together. We’re delighted to have Estelle [Cascarino] back. Having a lot of players in defence is an extra motivation for each of us to work harder.

“I think we’re used to playing games with only a few days between them, so we’re able to recover both mentally and physically in a short time.”

“Just like in every game, we made some mistakes against Inter. Watching the game back, I think we played very well for most of it. In those last few minutes, Inter tried everything to find the equaliser, but we defended together with great team spirit and sacrifice, and that is a strong sign of unity.

“The Serie A Women’s Cup is a competition I like because it has allowed us to approach both the league and the Champions League gradually, testing ourselves against strong opponents. We played competitive matches against teams that all play in Serie A.

“It’s nice as Juve to be playing at the home of Juve Stabia, and we’re happy to be playing the final here. I hope the city of Castellammare di Stabia responds positively, it would be great to see the stadium filled with passionate fans. As for the match, having 24 hours less rest than our opponents is a factor we can’t ignore, but it must not be used as an excuse. I have a squad full of high-quality players, so I will take advantage of that to ensure the team is fresh both physically and mentally throughout the match.

“[Danielle] De Jong made an excellent impression [against Inter], in every respect. She has also settled very well within the group. We have three strong goalkeepers and at the moment [Pauline] Peyraud-Magnin is the first choice, De Jong is the second, and [Alessia] Capelletti is the third. But all three have shown great confidence between the posts when called upon. For tomorrow, the entire squad will be available. The players are doing well and ready to give their all.

“Roma changed a lot this summer, starting with the head coach. They’ve also changed and used a lot of tactical setups since the beginning of the season. They’re definitely still in a testing phase, but we will certainly be facing a club that is full of enthusiasm, especially after deservedly qualifying for the League Phase of the Champions League.”
