Former Milan CEO and sporting director Ariedo Braida has explained what advantages Massimiliano Allegri would bring to the current side if he were appointed as the successor to Sergio Conceicao in San Siro, and has outlined what the Rossoneri need if they are to return to competing for major titles.

Allegri continues to be linked with a return to San Siro to replace Conceicao at the end of the 2024-25 campaign. Braida had been with Milan for almost 25 years when Allegri was appointed as head coach the first time around.

Braida: Why Allegri makes sense for Milan

The fact that Allegri is well-established with the environment in Milan is one of the key advantages of his candidacy, as well as his track record of Serie A titles with six to his name already.

“The results speak for his past. Allegri won in his first year with us and then was able to repeat himself several times at Juventus,” Braida said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, published on Thursday.

“On the future, only time will tell,” he added. “Max, however, has a good advantage: He already knows Milan, Milanello and the surrounding area.

“Max has already experienced all the pressure, culture and the expectations of the fans of a club like Milan. And, after a season with two different coaches who have struggled to measure themselves on a bench like Milan for the first time, his experience would be a guarantee.”

“Everyone makes mistakes, but with him, the risk, at least at the start, would be lower.”

Braida went on to outline the structure that Milan require if they are to return to winning ways.

“A club is made up of an owner, a president, a CEO, sporting director, a coach and several key players. Every component has to make the right contribution, nobody wins alone.”

Milan are also on the lookout for a new sporting director ahead of the 2024-25 season, with Fabio Paratici and Igli Tare the two most-commonly linked names over the last few weeks. Braida hints that both would be good appointments for the Rossoneri.

“He (Allegri) knows both of them well. Fabio spent years at Juve and also gained experience abroad at Tottenham. You don’t get to or stay at certain levels by chance. Igli, on the other hand, contributed to Lazio’s good results and has shown that he is smart with his excellent insights. They are two names that I appreciate.”
