Tuesday’s reports claim that Bologna have been in contact with former Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschi over a potential return to Serie A upon the termination of his deal with MLS side Toronto FC.
Toronto have officially confirmed that Bernadeschi has left the club six-months before the end of his contract, which had been due to expire this coming winter.

“Toronto FC today announced that the Club and Federico Bernardeschi have agreed to terminate the winger’s contract. Toronto FC have utilized one of the Club’s two buyouts of a guaranteed contract on Bernardeschi,” a statement on the club website read.

“After internal discussions with Federico, we were aligned that this was the correct moment to part ways,” said Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez. “We would like to thank Fede for his contributions to Toronto FC over the past three years and wish him the best in the next chapter of his career.”
Bernadeschi’s Toronto departure comes on the same day as compatriot and former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne, who has also been released and is now available as a free agent as well.

Both players are expected to return home to Italy, and it is understood that both are looking at potential Serie A returns for the 2025-26 season.

Bologna offer Bernardeschi Serie A return
For Bernardeschi, there has reportedly been contact from Vincenzo Italiano’s Bologna according to reports from Fabrizio Romano and Calciomercato.com.

Tuesday’s reports claim that there has been a ‘formal’ approach for the 31-year-old winger, who netted 22 Serie A goals during his time with Juventus and Fiorentina.
According to Calciomercato, Bernardeschi would be prepared to lower his demands from the bumper salary that he had been earning in Canada in order to facilitate a return to the Italian top flight.
There had also reportedly been interest from both Lazio and Roma in recent transfer windows.
