Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode 27 recap: Serie conducts the First Class Mage Exam’s final round

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End episode 27, titled “An Era of Humans,” covers the final round of the First Class Mage Exam, proctored by Serie. Naturally, her involvement causes tension among the test-takers. However, the episode starts on a lighter note, with Fern reuniting with Stark after her success in the exam’s second round. A gloomy Fern sulks over her argument with Frieren about her broken staff.

While Frieren urges Fern to get a new staff, Fern explains that the staff holds sentimental value for her because Heiter gave it to her. However, despite the misunderstanding, she returns home to find that Frieren has already gotten her staff fixed from Richter.

Meanwhile, Serie prepares for the exam’s third round and selects promising candidates based on her intuition. Frieren prepares Fern for Serie’s interrogation in advance. Fern passes Serie’s test despite rejecting her proposal to be her apprentice. However, the ancient mage fails many candidates, including Frieren.
