Aston Villa look to rival Napoli in race for €35m-rated winger

Villa enter race for Spanish starlet Rodriguez

Aston Villa have expressed a concrete interest in Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez, according to TeamTalk. The 19-year-old has already caught the attention of several European clubs, including Napoli, AC Milan and Brighton, and Villa are the latest Premier League side to register their admiration.

Rodriguez has emerged as one of La Liga’s brightest young attacking talents, having made 21 league appearances last season, scoring twice and assisting once. His performances in the UEFA Conference League, where he added another goal in eight outings, further underlined his potential.

As it stands, no formal bids have been lodged by any of the interested clubs. However, TeamTalk reports that “all clubs are well informed on details about his availability”.

Release clause adds clarity for suitors

Rodriguez is under contract with Real Betis until 2029, which includes a €35 million (£29.5m) release clause. That valuation is considered relatively modest for a player of his age and upside, especially given the increasing premium placed on wide forwards in the current market.

Despite being tied down long-term, Rodriguez is understood to be “open to evaluating new opportunities if formal proposals arrive”.

Under-21 Euros could prove pivotal

The winger is expected to feature prominently for Spain at the upcoming UEFA Under-21 European Championship, which could serve as a showcase for his ability and impact. Strong performances at the tournament would likely accelerate interest from top-tier clubs.

With Villa in the Europa League next season and aiming to deepen their squad, Rodriguez fits the profile of a forward-thinking, high-ceiling investment. It is a situation worth watching as Monchi continues reshaping the squad under Unai Emery’s guidance.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

This is the type of transfer rumour that signals a true evolution at Villa Park. Under Unai Emery and Monchi’s stewardship, Aston Villa are no longer just looking for experience or immediate solutions. They are targeting players with long-term potential, and Jesus Rodriguez fits that bill perfectly.

The idea of luring a player courted by Napoli and AC Milan speaks volumes about where Villa now stand. Investing in a 19-year-old with La Liga pedigree, European minutes and the potential to explode at the U21 Euros is the sort of strategic gamble that top clubs make.

While the release clause might look steep, the market has long moved past the point where £29 million is considered excessive for elite teenage potential. If Rodriguez thrives this summer, that fee could look like a bargain in 12 months.

Villa fans will hope this isn’t just a rumour, but a sign of intent. Because this summer, it’s not just about depth, it’s about ambition.
