A homeowner at Hong Kong’s Redhill Peninsula and parties involved in illegal building works have been fined more than HK$400,000 (US$51,280) in total.

The Buildings Department said on Monday that the fines were handed down by Eastern Court, the latest case at the luxury residential estate where rampant unauthorised structures were uncovered two years ago.

After pleading guilty on Thursday, the owner of the detached house was fined HK$110,000. The works contractor and its authorised signatory were fined HK$110,000 and HK$70,000 respectively.

The latter two, separately, were also fined HK$70,000 and HK$45,000 respectively after being convicted of carrying out illegal building works at another house in the development in Southern district.

Legal proceedings against the second homeowner were ongoing, the department said.

“Investigations by the [department] found that the owners of the two detached houses, the [contractor] and its [authorised signatory] had knowingly carried out the [unauthorised building works] without the prior approval and consent of the [department],” it said.
