Newly released footage has surfaced showing former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler refusing to take a field sobriety test before his arrest for DUI in October 2024.
The footage, which offers a clearer look at the tense exchange, begins with police responding to the scene of Cutler’s minor fender bender with another vehicle. The situation quickly escalated after officers allegedly noticed the former athlete smelled of alcohol.
Since the incident, Jay Cutler has faced several consequences, including a short jail stay, a $350 fine, and one year of supervised probation.

Newly released police bodycam footage has captured the moment Jay Cutler was arrested for driving under the influence and firearm possession in October 2024.
The footage, obtained by TMZ, began with an officer approaching Cutler at the scene of his fender bender with another vehicle.
The former NFL quarterback then calmly handed over his ID when approached by the officer, then stood quietly while being asked to identify his vehicle and present his license and registration.
As Cutler began retrieving the documents, the driver of the other car began explaining the crash to the officer and placing the blame squarely on Cutler.
The situation appeared under control until the officer reportedly noticed the smell of alcohol on Cutler and questioned him about how much he had been drinking.
Cutler initially denied having any drinks before admitting to having “a little bit.” However, when asked to perform a field sobriety test, he refused outright, prompting the officer to immediately place him in handcuffs.

After handcuffing Cutler, who showed no signs of resistance, the officer conducted a routine search of his body before escorting him to a patrol car and placing him in the back seat.
Although not shown in the footage, Cutler was then taken to a hospital, where a blood draw was performed to determine his alcohol level.
The result, as revealed by a source, was 0.23 blood alcohol content percentage, which is thrice the legal limit of 0.08.
From the hospital, Cutler was then taken to Williamson County jail, where he was charged and later released after posting a $5,000 bond.

While Cutler was initially charged with DUI and firearm possession, he reached a plea deal with prosecutors in August.
He was subsequently fined only $350, sentenced to four days in jail, and placed on one year of supervised probation, which, if violated, could lead to additional penalties.
For reasons unclear, Cutler only spent about two and a half days in jail before being set free.
However, he is still required to complete a DUI safety course and will be unable to drive within Tennessee for the next year, as his driver’s license has been revoked for that duration.
The former NFL star has yet to address the incident publicly, nor has his attorney made any comment on the matter.

On the civil side, Cutler could also suffer heavy financial losses, as he was sued by one of the drivers he rear-ended, per TMZ.
The individual, Perry Lee, filed a lawsuit against the former Chicago Bears star in September, accusing the ex-football player of being “at fault for the collision.”
In the court filing, Lee detailed the reasons he holds the former NFL star responsible for the incident, one of which was that Cutler was tailgating his car.

Lee mentioned that Cutler was not paying attention to the road and he failed to exercise “reasonable and due care” while allegedly under the influence.
According to Lee’s lawyers, John Morgan and Sydney Pierce, the injuries he suffered from the incident “cause him daily pain and have eroded his quality of life.”
While it is unclear how much in damages Lee is seeking, it is likely to be a substantial amount, as he claimed that he was left with mounting medical bills, physical and mental suffering, and a diminished quality of life after the incident.
