Deadly Cargo Flight Crash at HKIA – Travel Radar

At HKT 3:53 a.m., 20 October, an Emirates cargo plane inbound to Hong Kong International Airport crashed onto the runway. All crew on board are safe; however, 2 staff on an airport patrol car near the deadly crash were badly injured and declared deceased later in the morning.

Deadly Crash as Patrol Car Shoved into the Sea by Plane

This morning ( 20 October), Emirates cargo flight UAE9788 crash landed on the Northern runway of Hong Kong International Airport. According to the local fire brigade, the plane was floating in the sea when discovered, broken into two. The 4 crew members on the cargo flight from Dubai were all unharmed when they escaped from the aircraft and waited for rescue.

At the same time, an airport patrol car near the crash was affected, and later on discovered underwater, with 2 staff members trapped in the car unable to escape, and were pronounced dead later on.

Investigation Continues, Crew Escorted to A&E

The investigation of this incident continues as the crew members were sent to A&E in a nearby hospital for checkups.

Mr Steven Yiu, Executive Director of Airport Communications at the HKIA, has said that the weather and runway conditions were fine when the cargo flight crash happened.

Hong Kong International Airport has served as a regional hub for air cargo. The authorities believed that the crash this morning would not affect the airport’s operations today as they work with local authorities to investigate into the matter.
