HK delegation to visit Beijing, Xiong’an for development insights

Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po will lead a high-level Hong Kong delegation on a visit to Beijing and Hebei to gain insights and advance the development of the Northern Metropolis.

The 40-member delegation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will visit the Beijing subsidiary administrative center and the Xiong’an New Area in Hebei province during the trip, which concludes on Saturday.

They will study the development experiences of these major new areas on the Chinese mainland and advance the planning, construction and investment promotion for the Northern Metropolis.

The delegation includes Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah, Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho, Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho Wing-yin, and Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong.

The SAR government is keen on leveraging regional development experiences to bolster its strategic initiatives, particularly the Northern Metropolis, a proposed new township near the boundary that covers one-third of Hong Kong’s land to house one-third of its population.    

The Northern Metropolis is considered an important platform to promote high-quality economic cooperation with the Greater Bay Area and for Hong Kong to integrate into the overall national development.

The SAR delegation will also include senior management members from organizations such as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the MTR Corp Ltd, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corp, the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Ltd, and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park Ltd.

Representatives from the eight universities funded by the University Grants Committee, along with key figures from the business, finance, and banking sectors, will also participate.
