Diary of a champion: Hong Kong cyclist Ceci Lee on defending her National Games gold

When I was starting out in cycling as a young girl, I never imagined I would have the chance to visit so many different parts of the world by the age of 24.

I am grateful the sport has given me the opportunity to race in Canada, Egypt, France and the UK, along with regularly competing around Asia.

Seeing new places is so much fun, but I always get excited about racing at home, and next month’s National Games track cycling is being staged at the Hong Kong Velodrome.

My biggest goal is to do well in the omnium, which is my favourite event, but I will be giving everything in all my competitions.

I start with the road race in Zhuhai on November 9. I won gold in Shaanxi in 2021, but no one knew anything about me back then, so I could almost sneak to victory without being noticed.

I am a better and more professional cyclist than four years ago, but my opponents know that too, and they will be watching me. There are so many quality mainland riders and there will be a fight for medals, but that’s what we expect from a major Games.
