Hong Kong Airport launches cultural layover tours

Hong Kong International Airport has rolled out a new stopover tour programme designed for passengers with long layovers, giving them the chance to experience the city’s cultural heartbeat between flights.

Travellers with at least seven hours between connecting flights — and who meet Hong Kong’s entry requirements — can now join guided excursions to some of the city’s top landmarks, as reported by Travel News. (South African passport holders can enter visa-free for stays of up to 30 days.)

Passengers can pre-book their chosen tour up to three months in advance or sign up at the Free Layover Tour Service Counter upon arrival at the airport. Spaces are limited and subject to availability.

Currently, two itineraries are on offer:

  • The Heritage and Local Lifestyle Citywalk (12h00–16h00) — Explore Wong Tai Sin Temple and browse the bustling market streets of Sham Shui Po, where Hong Kong’s daily rhythm comes alive.
  • The Victoria & West Kowloon Waterfront Journey (17h30–21h30) — Stroll through the West Kowloon Cultural District and along the iconic Avenue of Stars overlooking Victoria Harbour, home to handprints of Hong Kong’s film legends.

These complimentary tours offer a refreshing way to turn a long layover into a short adventure.
