The English Schools Foundation (ESF) in Hong Kong will open three new kindergartens offering a total of 400 first-year places in 2026 while closing two existing ones, the city’s largest international school group has revealed.
ESF told the Post on Wednesday that it would launch three new kindergartens in Sai Sha, Kornhill in Quarry Bay, and West Kowloon, next to an MTR station.
Two existing ESF kindergartens – one in Tung Chung and Abacus International Kindergarten in Sai Kung – are set to close.
A spokesman for ESF said the preschool in Tung Chung would reopen at the Sai Sha location next year, offering 150 places in each of the two kindergarten grades, with the possibility of direct entry into ESF Renaissance College in Ma On Shan.
Staff of the existing institution would also relocate to the new Sai Sha campus, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the group is examining options for the 23-year-old Abacus International Kindergarten, which is expected to close in June 2027.
