Hong Kong nursing home, hospital first to benefit from new CLP energy saving plan

A nursing home and a hospital have become the first beneficiaries of a major Hong Kong power company’s new energy saving scheme, with the initiative expected to save them electricity equal to the consumption of 120 households annually.

CLP Power revealed on Monday that the nursing home and the hospital under Haven of Hope Christian Service in Tseung Kwan O were the first beneficiaries of its new energy saving scheme launched this June.

The initiative is the first dedicated specifically to helping eligible subvented organisations and schools improve their energy efficiency, with HK$44 million (US$5.7 million) allocated from the utility company’s existing Community Energy Saving Fund.

“For this project, we will provide a one-stop service,” said CLP Power chief corporate development officer Quince Chong Wai-yan.

“It includes energy audits for applicants, proposing energy-saving solutions based on their energy needs and providing project funding.”

Subvented organisations are non-governmental groups that receive funds from authorities to offer public services.
