Schalke Fans Condemned For Violent Dublin Scenes Ahead Of Bohs Friendly

Schalke 04 fans took to the streets of Dublin ahead of the German club’s friendly meeting with Bohemians on Saturday.

A second-tier Bundesliga club these days, Schalke’s supporters travelled in their numbers for the encounter in which Bohemians ran out 3-2 winners.

The clash was non-televised – it was streamed on LOITV – but drew a good crowd to Dalymount Park, with Dawson Devoy, Adam McDonnell and John Mountney getting the goals for the hosts.

Though many Schalke supporters created a brilliant atmosphere in the away end, taking to the pubs of Phibsborough prior to the contest, there were hugely disappointing scenes as the club’s “ultras” were caught up in several unsavoury incidents.

Footage emerges of violent Schalke fans in Dublin

Footage has emerged of a Schalke ultras march before the game, in which their supporters appear to get physical with photographers.

Photographer Carly Clarke has shared footage of the moment in which she took shots of the parade of Schalke supporters who were already heading in her direction.

One fan approaches her aggressively before her colleague intervenes. Her colleague is then pushed to the ground. The footage ends as another Schalke supporter swings a kick his direction as he is prone on the ground.

This behaviour was compounded by the experience of Bohemians’ photographer Darren O’Hanlon, who had been on duty at the fixture.

He has shared footage to his Instagram of the moment he is spat at by a Schalke supporter as he takes in footage of the vociferous traveling fans.

‘There is a couple of people asking what happened and that is the thing, what you see is what happened.

He continued: “I didn’t even see him, I was looking through my camera. I didn’t speak to him… he just walked up and spit on me.”

O’Hanlon added that he then left the game in frustration after realising that there was spit on his cheek.

Disgraceful behaviour which has tainted an otherwise positive fixture and result for Irish club soccer.
