Hong Kong rolls out transport, crowd control measures for National Day celebrations

Hong Kong authorities have prepared transport and crowd control measures ahead of the National Day celebrations at key locations such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge and High Island Reservoir East Dam.

The government revealed on Monday a string of targeted measures for the East Dam in Sai Kung, an attraction especially popular among mainland Chinese travellers but lacking in transport options.

The Transport Department said minibus operators would extend weekday services during mainland China’s eight-day “golden week” holiday between October 1 and 8. Route 9A, from Pak Tam Chung to East Dam, will operate throughout the period with increased frequencies.

During weekends and public holidays, the number of minibuses will be raised from four to at least 30, along with standby vehicles and drivers to accommodate visitors visiting the area around the East Dam.

Travellers will also be able to get up-to-date information about crowd numbers through the websites of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and Hong Kong Tourism Board during the eight-day period.

The AFCD and police will deploy more officers to patrol the country park area surrounding the East Dam to maintain order and enhance hygiene.
