Leveraging Hong Kong: Chongqing’s Belt and Road Opportunity

Hong Kong — At the 10th Belt and Road Summit held in Hong Kong, enterprises from Chongqing joined hands with Hong Kong investment institutions to showcase the innovation capabilities of Chinese companies in smart manufacturing and new energy sectors. This collaboration aims to deepen industrial cooperation with countries along the “Belt and Road” route.

Chongqing Enterprises in the Spotlight: Technology and Manufacturing as Dual Drivers

Among the participating enterprises, Chongqing Sijing Technology Group and Chongqing Suliang Plastic Co., Ltd. stood out as representative players, engaging in in-depth exchanges with global businesses and investment institutions.

Chongqing Sijing Technology Group specializes in the research and development of AI-powered educational products, aiming to deeply integrate AI technology into teaching scenarios. Claire, a company representative, stated at the conference: “We are here because we recognize the tremendous opportunities for digital transformation in education under the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative. With our mature AI teaching products and technical services, we hope to establish deep collaborations with local educational institutions to promote cross-border sharing of high-quality educational resources.”

Chongqing Sulian Plastic Co., Ltd., recommended as a “star going-global enterprise” by CICC’s Specialized, Refined, Unique, and Innovative Enterprises Service Center, showcased its full range of automotive fluid pipeline system solutions. The company representative emphasized to international clients: “The new energy vehicle industry and infrastructure construction in countries along the ‘Belt and Road’ are accelerating, presenting a strategic opportunity for us to expand internationally. We not only provide over 2,000 types of pipeline system products for traditional automakers but also possess core technologies in emerging areas such as hydrogen energy storage and transportation pipelines and data center liquid cooling systems.”

Through this international exhibition, Chongqing enterprises are leveraging technological innovation as a link to accelerate their integration into the new landscape of industrial cooperation under the “Belt and Road” initiative.

Win-Win Collaboration: Hong Kong as a Super Connector

Cliff Zhang, CEO & Founding Partner of Templewater HK Limited, shared his experiences in deepening engagement with the Middle Eastern market over the past three years: “Our portfolio company, Wisdom Motor, provided Hong Kong with its first pure electric double-decker bus and hydrogen-powered double-decker bus. This success directly led to the introduction of the first batch of hydrogen buses in the UAE in November 2023.”

Zhang noted, “We are assisting Middle Eastern countries in achieving industrial diversification and transformation. Chinese companies lead globally in technology, cost efficiency, and solutions, naturally complementing the Middle Eastern market.”

Regarding the development of new energy vehicles in the Middle Eastern market, Zhang analyzed: “Although oil prices are low in the Middle East, countries have prioritized energy diversification in their 2040 and 2050 visions. Due to the region’s extreme heat, electric vehicles face challenges such as high air conditioning energy consumption, which may make hydrogen energy a more viable solution for commercial vehicles.”

“As the Belt and Road Initiative enters its second decade, the focus is shifting from scale to quality,” Zhang emphasized. “Hong Kong, with its international alignment in finance, law, and taxation, is well-positioned to support Chinese mainland companies in going global. By first establishing a presence in Hong Kong, mainland enterprises can create demonstration cases that enhance international confidence in Chinese technology.”
