Plane Passenger Purchases Window Seat So She Can Look at the View. But Woman Behind Her Has Other Idea (Exclusive)

You can’t control the people around you on a plane.

Tori Wils was on a two-hour flight to North Carolina when the woman behind her decided she was tired of the sunlight streaming in from Wils’ window. As the 26-year-old was filming the view for her TikTok, she saw a hand reach out and pull down her window shade. When Wils pulled it back up, the woman behind her pulled it down again.

Wils then turned around and asked the woman to stop, which she, thankfully, did.

“After I put the phone down, I said stop and we laughed about it and she stopped,” Wils shares with PEOPLE.

Still, Wils shared the video on TikTok, and it went viral, amassing 3.1 million views.

“It’s crazy to see how many people it’s affected,” Wils says, noting that the comments section was full of people sharing what they would have done in the same situation.

“If I pay for a window seat I’m using the window I don’t care. I’m terrified of heights but the view out of the plane window makes me forget about that cause it’s so beautiful,” one person commented.

“If that ever happens to you, ring your call light above you and let the flight attendant know. They will have your back. That’s your seat and that’s your window,” a flight attendant chimed in.

Another person simply wrote, “That’s your window, not hers!”

While Wils notes that it was the first time someone had tried to share her shade, she ran into another issue on the flight back home, when the person in front of her abruptly reclined their chair.

“I had my tray table down to hold my water and then the person in front of me reclined their chair in a rough way and my water spilled all over the place,” Wils shares.

Both instances call into question proper airplane etiquette, a hot topic online nowadays, as people debate the best ways to share the air while respecting personal space and boundaries.
