樹仁大學校監胡鴻烈逝世 享年105歲 (14:02) – 20250728 – 港聞 – 即時新聞

胡鴻烈於1971年創辦樹仁書院,一直拒絕接受港英政府資助,以保四年制學制,並自資覓地建校。直至2006年,樹仁獲特區政府承認,升格為本港首間私立大學。胡鴻烈除貢獻本地教育,亦因擔任「紙盒藏屍案」被告歐陽炳強的辯護律師而為人所知。

胡鴻烈出生於1920年浙江紹興,青年時期於中央政治大學外交系畢業,其後負笈海外,於1946年出成為時任蘇聯烏茲別克共和國首都塔什干總領事館副領事;至1952至54年,精通中、英、法、俄語的胡鴻烈先後獲法國巴黎大學法學博士學位及英國大律師資格後回港執業,並先後擔任市政局及香港立法局議員。

1971年,香港只有香港大學及中文大學,胡鴻烈與其妻鍾期榮有感青年缺乏專上教育機會,故以積蓄買下跑馬地成和道一幢3層高的洋房,自資創立樹仁書院,設法政、社工、工商等科系,為中學畢業生提供升學機會。

樹仁書院1977年獲港英政府承認為專上學院,更名為「樹仁學院」;翌年港英政府曾以資助為游說樹仁接納「二二一」制,即開辦兩年中六課程,兩年大專課程及一年深造課程;但胡氏夫婦堅信四年大學學制才能達致全人教育,因此寧不獲資助亦拒絕政府要求,保留四年學制。

胡氏夫婦一直致力辦學,並將校舍擴展和搬到北角寶馬山;至2006年,樹仁終獲特區政府承認,升格為本港首間私立大學。

胡鴻烈除因辦學而享負盛名,他亦曾參與1970年代發生的「紙盒藏屍案」,為被告歐陽炳強辯護。去年曾有傳媒公開歐陽炳強的專訪,當時歐陽炳強感謝審訊期間為他四處奔走的人,特別提及替其辯護的大律師胡鴻烈及湯家驊。
