Man found guilty of killing young DeKalb mother while she held their child

A DeKalb County jury has reached a verdict in the trial of a man accused of shooting and killing the mother of his child.

On Wednesday afternoon, jurors found Taco Nash, 22, guilty of all 13 counts in the death of Mic’keya Montgomery, 21.

He was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated stalking, kidnapping and more.

Nash was given three life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 60 years in prison. Montgomery’s family will also be granted a permanent protective order against him.

As Nash was being escorted out of the courtroom, Channel 2 Action News cameras caught him spit at prosecutors before being forcibly removed by deputies.

Jurors deliberated for less than four hours after hearing closing arguments on Wednesday morning.

Prosecutors say Nash followed Montgomery to the child’s daycare and confronted her. He then kidnapped Montgomery and the former couple’s 16-month-old daughter, Khloe, and then dragged them into some nearby woods where he killed Montgomery in front of the child, police said.

Defense attorneys suggested that a note was found in Montgomery’s purse where she said she was going to kill herself before Nash did.

They also suggested that Nash did not force Montgomery to leave the daycare.

“It’s absurd. It makes no sense,” prosecutor Garrett Emmons said.

Emmons argued that a gun was found in Montgomery’s hand because Nash placed it there.
