Chelsea Make Offer to Sign ‘One of Premier League’s Best Dribblers’

Chelsea have made a proposal to sign West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus, journalist Simon Phillips has revealed.

The Blues have reportedly submitted an initial bid worth £50m and are trying to offer players in exchange as well, having identified Kudus as their desired target for the attacking midfield role.

Enzo Maresca’s side are said to be eyeing Kudus as a separate signing rather than an alternative to Brighton’s Joao Pedro, who is now close to joining in a £60m deal.

The Brazilian forward is expected to sign a seven-year contract and is set to undergo his medical in the United States, where Chelsea are competing in the Club World Cup and are setto face Palmeiras in Friday’s quarter-final tie.

According to Phillips, Chelsea are expected to continue their pursuit of Kudus after making an initial £50m offer to West Ham last week:

Kudus, praised as ‘one of the Premier League’s best dribblers’, turned down a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer and the chance to reportedly triple his salary.

An unnamed Saudi Pro League club were believed to be willing to pay close to West Ham’s £70m valuation, but Kudus opted against the switch as he wants to continue playing in Europe at this stage of his career.

West Ham are still expected to offload Kudus to support Graham Potter’s summer rebuild and are reportedly aiming to almost double the £38m they paid Ajax for him two years ago, with Tottenham also among his top suitors.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have placed strong focus on signing attacking-minded players this summer, with Liam Delap’s arrival set to be followed by the signings of Pedro and Jamie Gittens.
