On Saturday evening England and Germany will take to the field to see which nation can lay claim to this year’s Euro U21 Championships. While the Three Lions have a number of outstanding players to call upon, their continental rivals can also lay claim to an impressive array of young players capable of winning games almost single-handedly. And among them all, the most notable name at this moment in time seems to be star striker Nick Woltemade

How good is Nick Woltemade?

Woltemade has been the real surprise package of 2025 in German football, after making the move from Werder Bremen to Stuttgart in the summer transfer window for free. Since then he’s gone from being a relative nobody to becoming one of the most sought-after forwards in European football and a quick look at his stats would explain why. While it took Woltemade a bit of time to establish himself in Sebastian Hoeneß’s first team, once he nailed down a starting role he didn’t look back and over the course of the 24/25 season bagged an impressive 12 goals and two assists in 28 appearances. As we can see in the graphic below, across all competitions the forward scored 17 goals and provided three assists, averaging 0.72 goal contributions per 90 minutes.

Woltemade Stuttgart stats

Perhaps his most notable performances came in the German Cup, where Woltemade scored in every single game he took part in, missing just one of Stuttgart’s games as they marched to their first DFB Pokal trophy since 1997. Woltemade, unsurprisingly, scored in the final as Stuttgart beat Arminia Bielefeld 4-2, wrapping up the competition with five goals and an assist in just five games. Such performances then earned Woltemade a call up to Julian Nagelsmann’s German national team, where the young forward featured in the recent Nations League double-header against Portugal and France.

As if that wasn’t enough to create plenty of buzz around the Stuttgart talent, Woltemade was then picked for Germany’s team to take part in this summer’s U21 Euros and the forward has wasted little time running up his goal tally in that competition too. Ahead of Saturday’s final, Woltemade had scored a hat-trick against Slovenia, a goal and two assists against Czechia, a goal and assist against Italy and then a goal in the 4-0 win over France to reach the final. Such has been his formidable ferocity in front of goal that if Woltemade were to score two goals in the final against England, he’ll match Mark Hateley’s record of eight goals in the competition, which has stood unopposed since 1984.

 Nick Woltemade Market value

How much is Nick Woltemade worth?

To no great surprise, Woltemade’s market value has increased dramatically over the course of the last 12 months. This time last year, the forward’s market value stood at just slightly more than €5m, but since then it has risen to an impressive €30m, making him the third most valuable player in Stuttgart’s squad and the 12th most valuable German player in the world. That dramatic increase in market value was the fourth highest in the Bundesliga this season, with only three players gaining more market value in that same time period. However, it seems as though Woltemade’s club may have an even higher asking price if club’s are interested in signing him this summer. According to German publication Bild, Stuttgart have set a lofty asking price of €60m for their young striker – which is almost double their record transfer fee received for a player, which remains the €35m Bayern Munich paid for Benjamin Pavard in 2019.

Who wants to sign Nick Woltemade?

The young forward’s meteoric rise this year has naturally drawn a huge amount of attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. According to reports in England, both Liverpool and Arsenal remain interested in the young Stuttgart talent and could likely turn to Woltemade to plug holes in their attacks. Prior to that, reports also linked the player with moves to Chelsea or Real Madrid. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo even went as far as to sugest that Atletico Madrid was his preferred choice of club next season. However, it seems as though any club looking to sign the German international will have to tussle with Bayern for his signature this summer. According to Sky Germany, the young goalscorer has already agreed personal terms with the Bavarian giants and would prefer a move to Bayern if they can agree a transfer fee with Stuttgart. That, however, remains to be seen and a lot could change between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
