It is a show of faith in the 51-year-old Italian coach, who first took on the job in September 2023.

His record with the Turkey team is of 12 victories, four draws and seven defeats.

They also won the Nations League play-outs with Hungary in March 2025.

Montella got the job after working with Turkish club side Adana Demirspor, while before that his coaching roles were at Fiorentina, Sevilla, Milan, Sampdoria, Fiorentina, Catania and Roma.

There had been reports he could return to Serie A or even to take the Italy job when Luciano Spalletti was fired, but it went to Gennaro Gattuso.
