Liverpool Eyeing ‘Exceptional’ £23m Premier League Defender

Liverpool are among a host of Premier League clubs showing interest in a summer move for Brentford defender Nathan Collins, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed.

The Reds, along with Arsenal and Tottenham, are believed to be monitoring the ‘exceptional’ Irish international closely amid his impressive campaign under Thomas Frank.

Collins played every single minute of the Premier League season at the Gtech Community Stadium, helping the Bees finish 10th, and could now be part of their ongoing summer exodus.

Following Frank’s departure to Tottenham, star winger Bryan Mbeumo is also expected to leave, with Manchester United now emerging as front-runners for his signature.

According to Bailey, Brentford are expected to demand a ‘significant’ fee for Collins this summer amid his career-best season, having paid £23m to sign him from Wolves in 2023.

The 24-year-old centre-back is under contract with the Bees until the summer of 2029 and remains their second most expensive signing ever, behind only Igor Thiago’s arrival last year.

After missing out on Dean Huijsen, Liverpool could explore the centre-back market again this summer amid uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate’s future – the Frenchman’s contract is set to expire in just over 12 months.

The Reds are anticipated to spend heavily this summer following their Premier League title triumph and have already announced Jeremie Frimpong as their first signing earlier this month.

His former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz is expected to follow, along with Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.

While a deal worth £116m was agreed for Wirtz last week, club-to-club talks remain advanced for Kerkez’s arrival, with personal terms already settled.
