Two charged with child abuse in Athens

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — On Sunday, the Athens Police Department said two people were charged with child abuse after a three-year-old was brought to a hospital for serious injuries.

According to APD, at about 11 a.m., staff members at Athens-Limestone Hospital reported that a three-year-old child was being treated for serious injuries. APD said these wounds were consistent with child abuse.

Officers and detectives conducted an investigation, which resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Both of the following are charged with aggravated child abuse resulting in serious injury:

  • Zion Deshun Cannon, 26 years old, of Athens.

  • Daysha Serra Beasley, 32 years old, of Harvest.
