Hong Kong is set to attract about 170,000 visitors on the back of at least 56 events the Tourism Board has helped to put on the city’s calendar this year in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
The board said it had submitted bids to bring the events to the city, with 16 to make their debut locally this year.
Among the full calendar of events are the International Society for Stem Cell Research’s annual meeting in June, as well as aviation conferences Routes World 2025 and Airspace Asia-Pacific 2025 in September and December, respectively.
The board’s director of MICE business development, Phoebe Shing, said the 56 events would attract about 170,000 mainland Chinese and overseas visitors, with around 260,000 people taking part.
“The Tourism Board will fully promote the development of MICE tourism, continue to strive for more large-scale events, consolidate Hong Kong’s position as an international MICE capital and attract high-end tourists to Hong Kong,” she said.
Total overnight MICE visitors to Hong Kong, including those who attended events not facilitated by the board, increased by about 10 per cent to 1.42 million last year over the figure for 2023.
