45 Hong Kong organisations join Greater Bay Area social welfare initiative

More than 120 organisations from Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau have teamed up on over 100 social welfare projects in a bid to foster greater ties within the Greater Bay Area.

On Saturday, 45 Hong Kong organisations and 82 counterparts from Guangdong province and Macau signed memorandums of understanding for 101 projects covering areas such as elderly care, mental health, youth and family services and support for people with disabilities.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han said deeper cooperation could bridge the gulf in social welfare services within the bay area, which links Hong Kong, Macau and nine Guangdong cities into an economic and business hub.

“Through our social welfare cooperation, we can narrow the distance between each region in the Greater Bay Area,” he said at the ceremony co-organised by local welfare authorities and the non-governmental organisation Connecting Hearts.

“Through cooperation on substantive projects, we can establish deep friendship and mutual trust, laying a solid foundation for further development in the future.”

Xinliliang Psychological Service Centre, a Guangzhou-based NGO offering elderly care and mental health services, signed a three-year project with Hong Kong charity Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, to work on improving support for people with dementia.

Source link
