Two public hospital doctors have been arrested in Hong Kong for allegedly leaking patient information, the Post has learned.
While Tseung Kwan O Hospital issued a statement on Sunday about the suspected data leak, it did not disclose the number of employees or patients involved in the incident.
The hospital described the case as “staff non-compliance” involving the unlawful access and leakage of patient information, including addresses and phone numbers.
The hospital suspected that internal documents containing other patients’ information were also improperly leaked to a third party without authorisation.
A source said on Monday that a consultant and an associate consultant from the facility’s department of surgery were arrested on Sunday, adding that the former had tendered his resignation without explanation during the hospital’s investigation.
In its statement, the hospital said the incident could involve criminal offences and violations of professional conduct.
“The hospital is highly concerned and has immediately reported the case to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data,” it said.
