Alyeska Oktoberfest
4-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Alyeska Resort, 104 Arlberg Ave. in Girdwood
This annual event is packed with fun and entertainment, including costume contests, a beer hall, a yodeling contest, kids activities and, of course, performances from Alaska Blaskapelle and Alaska Main Squeeze.
Ride the Cyclone
7 p.m. Thursday-Friday-Saturday; West Anchorage High School, 1700 Hillcrest Dr.
The West Theatre Department puts on the high school edition of “Ride the Cyclone,” the musical about six teenagers from a Canadian chamber choir who awake in limbo after a freak accident aboard a roller coaster. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
Anchorage Vegfest
10 a.m. Saturday; Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, 621 W. 6th Ave.
This fifth annual event is “Alaska’s premier plant-based health and wellness festival, bringing together community, education, and celebration.” Tickets are $37.50 for adults and $20 for 18 and under.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s
11 a.m. Saturday; Westchester Lagoon, 1824 W. 15th Ave.
All funds raised from the walk go to further the care, support and research efforts led by the Alzheimer’s Association. On-site registration and check-in start at 10 a.m., opening ceremonies start at 11 a.m. and the walk begins at 11:30 a.m.
Anchorage Food & Wine Festival
5:30 p.m. Saturday; Hotel Captain Cook, 939 W. 5th Ave.
This year is the 40th anniversary of our Anchorage Wine & Food Festival, one of the city’s biggest philanthropic events. The event supports the American Cancer Society with donation and ticketing info available online.
Basically Bach
7:30 p.m. Saturday; Central Lutheran Church, 1420 Cordova St.
This concert opens Anchorage Festival of Music’s 70th season. AFM’s baroque orchestra will be joined by Bay Area harpsichordist Jonathan Salzedo to perform works by J.S. Bach. Tickets are $20 for students, $35 for seniors and $45 for general admission.

The season kickoff for the Alaska Fighting Championship starts on Saturday with both dry and wet sections. General admission tickets are $30 with VIP seating available.

Featuring the contemporary chamber music of Wild Shore New Music, composer Eve Beglarian is featured with the ensemble. Tickets are $13 for students and seniors and $24.50 for general admission.
