10 Best Things to Do in Hong Kong With Kids (Including Hidden Gems!)

Looking for the best family-friendly attractions in Hong Kong? From world-class theme parks to nature escapes and hands-on learning spots, Hong Kong offers endless fun for kids and adults alike. Whether you’re planning a weekend outing or a school holiday adventure, here are ten things to do in Hong Kong with kids!

Family-friendly attractions in Hong Kong you don’t want to miss

1. Ocean Park Hong Kong

No list of family-friendly attractions in Hong Kong would be complete without the city’s beloved classic: Ocean Park Hong Kong. I used to only see it on TVB shows, but finally setting foot here feels incredible. This marine-themed amusement park combines wildlife encounters, thrilling rides, and breathtaking views all in one place. Prepare for Pandamonium! A visit to the park’s panda habitat, home to the beloved Jia Jia and De De, is a must! They always steal the spotlight with their bamboo-munching charm.

One of the most memorable experiences is the Polar Adventure, where you can meet adorable penguins and even spot the majestic arctic foxes up close — a rare sight in Asia! The park is split into two zones, connected by the Ocean Express funicular train and a scenic cable car ride that offers sweeping views of the South China Sea. Ocean Park Hong Kong is no doubt on top of the visit list for families with kids travelling in Hong Kong!

TripZilla tip: Here’s a personal note: Do yourself a favour and try the signature mango juice at Ocean Park; it was genuinely the best I have ever tasted!

2. Joypolis

Located in Kai Tak, Joypolis Hong Kong is one of the newest and most exciting things to do in Hong Kong with kids. It brings SEGA’s signature mix of gaming and adventure to life. Spanning multiple floors, each level offers a different theme. There’s a Ninja Zone for stealthy challenges and a Mr Sonic floor that celebrates SEGA’s iconic blue hedgehog.

What really makes Joypolis stand out is its sportainment concept, blending physical movement and digital gameplay. One of the coolest parts is how the attractions capture your actual image or movements and project them into the game, so you can literally see yourself running, jumping, or competing on screen. It’s a fresh, interactive experience that both kids and adults will love, especially for those who want a high-energy day out that’s a bit different from traditional theme parks.

3. Mawan 1868

Tucked away on Ma Wan Island, Ma Wan 1868 is one of those family-friendly attractions in Hong Kong that even many locals like to keep secret. Unlike the city’s busy theme parks, this hidden gem offers a slower, more creative side of Hong Kong. It’s perfect for families who love art, nature, and cosy cafes.

You can spend the afternoon trying your hand at tie-dyeing workshops in one of the charming studios, before relaxing at one of the affordable cafes nearby.

TripZilla tip: According to locals, Ma Wan 1868 is one of the best places in Hong Kong to catch the sunset, with the stunning Tsing Ma Bridge glowing beautifully in the background!

4. Go Park Sai Sha

family friendly attractions in Hong Kong

If you’re looking for fun and active things to do in Hong Kong with kids, Go Park Sai Sha is a must-visit. This pet-friendly hangout space is truly one of a kind. It combines outdoor adventure, family fun, and great food all in one spot.

Kids can climb, swing, and explore at the children’s playgrounds, or try their hand at the rock climbing zone. Meanwhile, furry friends can enjoy running free at the pet park. After all the excitement, relax and refuel at one of the many eateries scattered throughout the area! It’s an ideal escape for families.

5. Hong Kong Science Museum

Curious minds of all ages, don’t forget to visit the Hong Kong Science Museum! This interactive museum is packed with over 500 exhibits covering everything from robotics and transportation to physics and environmental science. Kids can touch, play, and experiment their way through the galleries. Learning made fun!

The highlight is the Energy Machine, a massive, multi-story kinetic sculpture that comes to life with motion and sound every few minutes. But my personal favourite was the World of Mirrors exhibition!

6. The Peak

For a classic Hong Kong experience that never gets old, hop on the Peak Tram and head straight to The Peak! This is the oldest funicular railway in the city, and riding it feels like a mini adventure in itself. As you glide up the steep hillside, there will be jaw-dropping views of skyscrapers and Victoria Harbour below!

Once you’re at the top, wander over to the Victoria Peak Garden, a peaceful green escape that feels worlds away from the city buzz. Kids can play at the playground freely while parents take in the view or snap photos among the beautiful old Victorian-style buildings that once formed part of the Governor’s summer residence.

7. Artlane, Sai Ying Pun

If your family loves art and taking Insta-worthy photos, Artlane in Sai Ying Pun is a hidden gem you’ll adore! This creative corner of Hong Kong turns ordinary alleyways into a colourful open-air gallery filled with vibrant street murals and wall art that both kids and adults will love spotting.

The surrounding neighbourhood also has plenty of cute cafés and local bakeries, making it easy to grab a snack break in between exploring. Artlane isn’t just a feast for the eyes — it’s one of those family-friendly attractions in Hong Kong that blend creativity, culture, and casual fun all in one stop!

8. Tai Kwun

Located in the heart of Central, Tai Kwun is a beautifully restored heritage site that combines history, art, and family fun. Once a colonial-era police station and prison, it’s now a lively cultural hub packed with interactive exhibitions, art installations, and open courtyards where kids can run around freely.

Families can explore the old prison cells, join hands-on workshops, or catch a live performance in the central courtyard. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes inside (some even set within the restored prison buildings!), so you can easily make it a half-day outing.

9. Kowloon Walled City Park

Step back in time at Kowloon Walled City Park, one of the most unique things to do in Hong Kong with kids! Once known as the world’s most densely populated neighbourhood, this historic site has been beautifully transformed into a serene Chinese-style garden.

The park also features displays and remnants of the original walled city, making it both scenic and educational. During our visit, there’s even a Movie Set Exhibition, where visitors can immerse themselves in surreal environments that perfectly recreate what the Walled City once looked like!

10. Golden Bauhinia Square

According to locals, Golden Bauhinia Square is one of those must-visit spots for families exploring Hong Kong. Home to the famous Golden Bauhinia sculpture, this square is a symbol of Hong Kong’s reunification with China and a beloved photo stop for visitors of all ages.

Just steps away is the Wan Chai waterfront, a beautifully revamped promenade perfect for a leisurely family walk or a quick scooter ride for the little ones!
